About us

Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Livestock Systems

Why this Forum?

Ethiopia has many institutions that focus on agricultural education, research and extension. Communications and exchange of knowledge among Ethiopian livestock actors, including research, agriculture and training institutes (ATIs), extension, policy, and development actors need to be strengthened. The livestock sector needs effective, coordinated, and systematic efforts to strengthening communications, exchange, and co-creation of knowledge. New knowledges, products, policies, and services would reach every livestock utilitarian in an easy, interactive, and timely manner.

The forum helps:

  • Avoid duplications of efforts by professionals and institutions. This applies not only to research but also to livestock development interventions, services and product provisions.
  • Help to translate and disseminate scientific publications (local or international journals) into other forms of communication products for end-users
  • Helps to facilitate promotions of facilities, services or knowledge products from research, education and extension systems to get easily available.
  • Above all, the platform will be used as an important free forum to discuss current issues and challenges of the sector and find systemic solutions. This help to compliment the vital roles of professional associations

Approach

The Hawassa University will establish and launch the electronic platform on its website. ICT experts will codevelop guiding principles for the platform’s creation and moderation and for identifying, storing and disseminating knowledge materials. Project partners from the four major regional states will assign experts to identify gaps in knowledge materials. Materials will be uploaded on the platform and promoted through social media and awareness-raising. E-learning modules about livestock production and animal feeds will be developed, and online training will be offered on the platform. Workshops with key stakeholders will be conducted throughout the project.
